Why are New York mobsters called "Good fellows", are they good people, warm and filled with unconditional love?

They are not called "goodfellas". That's just a fictional/movie thing, not an actual historical/real thing. It worked its way into the popular vernacular after the Scorsese flick "Goodfellas".
